Anna

Beverly Hills

Dorsett Golden

Fuji

Recent introduction from Japan that quickly became California's favorite apple. Sweet, very crisp and flavorful, excellent keeper. Dull reddish-orange skin, sometimes russeted. Ripe mid-September. Excellent pollenizer for other apple varieties. Chilling requirement apparently less than 600 hours. Self fruitful.

Gala (Original Gala)

Wonderful dessert apple from New Zealand. Crisp, nice blend of sweetness and tartness, rich flavor. Skin reddish-orange over yellow. Early harvest, 2-3 weeks before Red Delicious. Good pollenizer for other varieties. 5-600 hours. Self fruitful.

Garden Delicious

A genetic dwarf. Sweet, crisp, superb flavor, even in hot climates. Greenish-yellow with red blush to full red. Dessert/cook, good keeper. September. 8-10 ft. tree, smaller with pruning. 600 hours. Self-fruitful. (Zaiger)

Golden Delicious

Long-time favorite for its sweetness and flavor. Reliable producer, adapted to many climates. Pollenizer for Red Delicious. Mid-season harvest (September in Central Calif.). 700 hours. Self fruitful.

Gordon

Popular variety for Southern Calif. Low chilling requirement, about 400 hours. Red over green skin, good quality. For fresh use and cooking. Self fruitful. Pat. No. 4144.

Granny Smith

From Australia. Large, late, green, all-purpose. Crisp, tart, excellent keeper. Requires long summer. Thrives in hot climates. 600 hours. Prolonged bloom: good pollenizer for other apples. Self fruitful.

Gravenstein, Green

Famous for sauce and baking, also used fresh. Crisp, juicy, flavorful, tart. Early bloom, early harvest. 700 hours. Pollen-sterile, pollenizer required: Empire, Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious.

Gravenstein, Red

Pink Lady (Cripps Pink)

Red Delicious

Apricot
Katy - New at EBN

Large, all-purpose, flavorful freestone. Tree ripe fruit is subacid (not tart). A favorite apricot for warm-winter climates. Early harvest, 3-4 weeks before Blenheim (Royal). 200 to 300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Blenheim (Royal)

All-purpose freestone, sweet, aromatic, flavorful. Long-time No.1 apricot in California. Early bloom. Late June harvest in Central Calif. 500 hours. Self-fruitful.

Brittany Gold

This sweet apricot is a very consistent producer and has proven to perform in tough climates where no other apricots do. This large, firm fruit has an extremely long season for an apricot, hanging for two weeks or more at the end of July. Self-fruitful. Estimated chilling requirement 500-700 hours.

Earli Autumn

Wonderful flavor both fresh and dried as tested by Dave Wilson Nursery. It will please even the most critical of apricot lovers. Late harvest, first two weeks of August. Pat. #9937 (Zaiger)

Asian Pear
20th Century (Nijisseiki 'Apple Pear')

Juicy, sweet, mild-flavored fruit is crisp like apple. Early to mid-August in Central Calif. Keeps well. Easy to grow, heavy bearing small tree. 450 hrs. Self-fruitful or pollinated by Shinseiki, Bartlett, or other pear or Asian pear.

Hosui

High-scoring in taste tests: perhaps the tastiest Asian pear. Large, juicy, sweet, flavorful, refreshing, crisp like an apple. Brownish-orange russeted skin. Harvest early to mid-August in Central CA. 450 hours. Pollinated by Shinko, Chojuro, Bartlett, or 20th Century.

Shinseiki

Juicy, sweet, refreshing, crisp like an apple. Easy to grow. Keeps well. Harvest late July/early August in Central Calif. Bright yellow skin. Vigorous, heavy bearing (usually by 2nd year). 350-450 hours. Self-fruitful.

Blackberry
Black Satin

Thornless Blackberry - Large, firm, glossy black berries. Sweet flavor and excellent quality for jams, jellies, fresh eating and pastries. Heavy yields, semi erect, thornless vines that dose not give rise to the occasional sticky cane like so many of the other thornless blackberry types.

Logan

Thornless Blackberry - Originating in California, the Logan is thought to be a natural cross between a California native blackberry and a red raspberry. The berries are long, large, dark red, acid, and highly flavored. The Logan is often used for pies, juice and wine. Not as widely grown commercially as it once was. There is high demand for it in the home garden due to its desirable flavor.

Marionberry

A cross between the Chehalem and Olallie Blackberries. It's berries are large, bright black, and excellent flavored. Recommended for fresh eating, jams, preserves, and desserts. Vigorous, thorny plant, strong canes and thrifty cane production. Ripens in July and early August along with the Boysenberry. Seeds are 1/7 the size of Boysen. Marionis popular commercially and is possibly hardier than Boysen.

Olallie

Blackberry - Developed in Oregon, But produces extremely well in California where the lack of day length and cold limit the productivity of some blackberries. Large, shiny, firm black berries. Sweet with some wild blackberry flavor. Vigorous and productive trailing thorny canes. Ripens in July. Good for fresh eating, jams and freezing.

Prime Ark 45

The medium to extremely large fruit have good flavor and hold up well after picking. Their firmness and high sugar content make them great choice for canning and baking. Produces fruit on first year canes making pruning a breeze. Ripening is very late and will extend the blackberry season late into the summer.

Thornless Boyson

Thornless Blackberry - Very large, almost seedless, sweet, juicy, full-bodied flavor. Good for fresh eating, freezing, jams, preserves, pastries, juice, syrup, and wine. To soft for shipping. Ripens during May and June. Thornless forms of all blackberries should not be cultivated deeply as damaged feeder roots will send up an occasional thorned sucker that has to be removed.

Blueberry, Northern Highbush
Bluecrop

No.1 variety, the standard of excellence. Upright, vigorous bush. Very productive. Large, firm, flavorful fruit does not drop or crack. Tolerates hot summers if soil is moist, acidic, and high in humus. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.

Blueray

Best variety for hot climates. Large, firm fruit, excellent flavor. Upright, vigorous bush, very productive. Blueberry culture requires soil that is moist, acidic, and high in humus. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.

Jersey

The dark blue, small to medium sized fruit is very sweet and a favorite for baking. A reliable producer year after year. Fruit ripens from midseason to late.

Patriot

Bears consistent crops of large sized fruit, very late ripening. The berries are dark blue and highly flavored. Low growing, spreading bush to about 4 feet.

Spartan

Early. One of the most attractive and best flavored berries of any cultivar. It is light blue, very large (often covering a quarter) with a delicious tangy sweet flavor.

Blueberry, Southern Highbush
Emerald

NEW! Emerald yields abundant crops of the largest Southern Highbush berries with a mild, sweet flavor. Its rounded, spreading bush habit makes it a great landscape plant. Dependable in southern climates with a low chill requirement of 250 hours.

Jewel

NEW! Jewel has become one of the leading varieties in California due to its adaptability, exceptional growth, high yields, and large, tangy fruit. Jewel is excellent for warmer regions due to its low chill requirement of 200 hours. Plant with other midseason varieties for best pollination.

Jubilee

Has distinguished itself as one of the toughest, performing well in heavier soils through summer heat. Bountiful crops of sky-blue berries presented over the outer periphery of the bush. Berries are medium sized and especially tasty, growing in large clusters that ripen over a two week period. Requires 500 chill hours.

Misty

Early. The sky blue berries are medium to large size and of excellent quality. Evergreen tendency in areas with mild winters. Yields best when planted with other blueberries. Requires 300 chill hours.

O'Neal

Very early, large, light blue fruit of terrific quality. O'neal is considered by some to have the best flavor of all the Southern Highbush blueberries. Summer foliage is an attractive gray-green accented with red stems and branches. The correct soil pH is important and should be 4.5-5.5 for success with this variety. Requires 600 chill hours.

Sharpblue

In milder zones with fewer than 500 chilling hours, Sharpblue will bloom and fruit almost year-round, and the bush will be nearly evergreen. The berries are dark blue, about the size of a dime, with excellent flavor and texture.

Southmoon

Southmoon is recommended if you are looking for exceptional berry. It does especially well in lighter, sandy soils with generous additions of organic matter. This Florida native is performing well in California where chilling hours reach 500.

Star

NEW! Star has been a valuable contributor to the growth of the commercial blueberry industry in southern regions for good reason. From a strong, upright growing plant, large berries with pleasantly sweet flavor can now compliment early season bounty in home gardens. 400 chill hours required.

Sunshine Blue

Large crops of dime-sized, delicious blueberries with a unique tangy flavor for up to 9 weeks in the summer. Sunshine Blue tolerates higher pH soils better than other blueberries. It is self pollinating. 150 chill hours required.

Cherry, Sour
Montmorency

Large, light red skin, yellow flesh. Perfect for cobblers, pies, etc. Extremely winter hardy. Very heavy bearing. Self-fruitful. Estimated chilling requirement: 700 hours.

Royal Lee

Medium-large red cherry; heart shaped, very firm with excellent flavor; ripens 11-14 days ahead of Bing; tree is very productive with a low chill requirement; estimated chilling requirement: 200 to 300 hours.

Stella

Self-fruitful - no pollenizer needed. Large, nearly black, richly flavored sweet cherry. Similar to its parent, Lambert. Late harvest. Pollenizes Bing, except in mild winter climates. Estimated chilling requirement: 700 hours.

Currant
Cherry

Red Currant -Large, dark red fruit with acid flavor. Fruit is high quality and excellent for jams, jelly, and sauces. Plants will grow 4 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 5 feet wide.

Consort

Black Current -Medium clusters of somewhat soft black berries. Very prominent, sweet, and unique flavor. Good for jams, jellies, juice, and wine. Also excellent when dried. Resistant to White Pine Blister Rust. Black currants are a very high source of vitamin C.

Jostaberry

A cross between a black currant and a gooseberry. It has the vigorous growth habit and the disease resistance of the black currant. The leaves are gooseberry like and the fruit, until ripe, looks like a gooseberry. In late June the fruit ripens and the elongated fruit turns black. The flavor is sweet like a gooseberry with a hint of black currant. Resistant to both powdery mildew and white pine blister rust. It should be pruned like a gooseberry.

Gooseberry
Captivator

Gooseberry -Captivator is a hybrid of European and American species. It has large tear dropped shaped fruit which are sweet; colored pink to red when fully ripe. The plant is semi thornless with yellow Fall color. Ripens in late July. Captivator is mildew resistant.

Oregon Champion

Originated in Salem, Oregon before 1880. Medium to large, yellowish green berries. Flavor will sweeten as it ripens. Oregon Champion is excellent for pies, jams, canning, and wine. Productive, vigorous plant will grow 3 - 5 
feet tall. Berries hold well on the bush. Oregon Champion will start bearing fruit in its second year 

Grape, Eating
Autumn Royal

The firm and generally seedless Autumn Royal berries are oval shaped and about an inch long. Their black or purple-black skin has a whitish cast or bloom. Inside, the flesh is an attractive, translucent yellow-green. Ripens the first or second week of October.

Crimson Seedless

New late season seedless grape, ripens early October in Fresno, Calif. Medium size, firm, very sweet, excellent quality. Cane prune. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.

Flame Seedless

Medium-sized, light red. Crisp, sweet, excellent flavor. For fresh use or raisins. Needs hot summer. Ripe early, before Thompson. Vigorous. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.

Perlette Seedless

Pale green berry is crisp and juicy. Larger than Thompson and two weeks earlier. Requires less summer heat than Thompson to ripen. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.

Thompson Seedless

The one you see in the grocery store-a snacktime favorite. Unbeatable for fresh use! Pale green fruit is sweet and delicious, with no bitter aftertaste. Dependably productive vines average 20-30 clusters apiece. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.

Grape, Wine
Merlot

Black berry, used for distinctive red wines. Best quality in cooler regions. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.

Syrah

One of the world's most diverse and successful grape varieties, Syrah wines can display myriad dark-fruit flavors. Syrah can be quite floral in its youth, developing more peppery and herbaceous notes as it ages. Some examples show tanned leather and smoky scents, while the fruit in these wines tends towards the very dark flavors of blackcurrant and licorice.

Jujube
Lang

Pear-shaped fruits are reddish-brown, dry, wrinkled, sweet and chewy (like dates) when fully ripe in early Fall. Attractive, easy-to-grow tree: hardy, drought-resistant, virtually pest and disease free. Requires long, hot summer. Low chilling requirement. Best when pollenized by Li.

Li

Round-shaped fruits are larger than Lang. Reddish-brown, dry and wrinkled, sweet and chewy (like dates) when fully ripe in early Fall. Attractive, easy-to-grow tree: hardy, drought-resistant, virtually pest and disease free. Requires long, hot summer. Low chilling requirement. Partly self-fruitful, or pollenized by Lang.

Sherwood

Bell-shaped fruit about 1.5 inches in diameter. Sherwood jujube is a large grower, up to 25 foot. When ripe the fruit is a light mahogany color with white flesh. Sweet maple apple like flavor. Fruit ripens in September. 

Sugar Cane

This new jujube cultivar has the sweetest fruit of any of the jujubes. 'Sugar Cane' fruits earlier than 'Li' or 'Lang' and is a productive variety. Fruit develops over an extended period, so you can harvest at your leisure.

Mulberry
Pakistan White Fruiting Mulberry - Morus nigra 'Alba'

Medium sized, sweet, white fruit shaped like blackberries. Grows at a moderate rate to 20-60 feet, depending on soil quality and depth. Drought tolerant once established. Grows larger and more rapidly with irrigation.

Persian Fruiting Mulberry - Morus nigra

Densely foliated tree to 25-30 ft. Large heart-shaped leaves. Large syncarpous (like a blackberry) fruit is juicy, dark red to black, good for jam.

Nectaplum™
Spice Zee Nectaplum™

SpiceZee packs a pile of amazing fruit into an attractive tree for the home gardener. It is slightly acidic and loaded with sugar giving it a spicy sweet flavor. One can detect both Plum and Nectarine traits with ease. Along with great flavor, Spice Zee is a beautiful ornamental tree with a tremendous spring bloom followed by dark red leaf in the spring that matures to a rich green-red in late summer. Arctic Blaze

Taste test winner. One of the best of the new low acid white nectarines: rich flavor and firm texture in early season, very sweet when soft ripe. Large size, red and creamy white skin. Harvest mid to late-August in Central California, after Arctic Queen white nectarine. Tested as 121LB410. Estimated chilling requirement 7-800 hours. Self-fruitful. Pat. No. 10174. (Zaiger)

Arctic Star

Early-season, super sweet, white fleshed nectarine. Low in acid, no tartness. Rave reviews in trial tastings. Semi-freestone with beautiful dark red skin. Harvest approximately June 10th to 30th at Hickman, Calif. Self-fruitful. Pat. No. 9332. (Zaiger)

Double Delight

Sensational fruit: consistently the best flavored yellow nectarine plus magnificent, double pink flowers. Dark red-skinned, freestone fruit is sweet, with unusually rich flavor. Very high scoring in taste tests. Heavy bearing tree. Harvest early to mid-July in Central CA. 300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Sauzee King

The first donut-style nectarine! This outstanding early season variety has white flesh that is sweet and juicy. Tree sets fruit at a young age and produces heavily. Thinning is required for large fruit size. Red skin over a blush of yellow. Estimated chill requirement: 500 hours or less.

Peach

August Pride

Large, all-purpose yellow freestone for mild winter climates. Sweet, aromatic, rich flavor, one of the very best. Ripens 3-4 weeks after Mid-Pride. Chilling requirement less than 300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Babcock

Long-time favorite white-fleshed freestone. Sweet and juicy, aromatic, low in acid. Very high-scoring in taste tests. Ripens mid-July in Central Calif. Widely adapted: (low chill requirement, yet not early blooming). 250-300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Donut (Stark Saturn)

Also called Saucer or Peento Peach. Unique white-fleshed fruit with a sunken center (shaped like a doughnut). Sweet, with a mild flavor described by some as almond-like. Ripens late June to early July in Central Calif. Estimated chilling requirement 400 - 500 hours. Self-fruitful.

Frost™

Resistant to peach leaf curl (10-year trials at Washington State U.). Delicious yellow freestone. Slight red blush over greenish yellow to yellow skin. Heavy bearing, excellent for canning or eating fresh. July. Showy pink bloom in spring. 700 hours. Self-fruitful.

Indian Free - White

The all-time highest rated peach at Dave Wilson Nursery fruit tastings. Large freestone, firm crimson and cream colored flesh. Tart until fully ripe, then highly aromatic with a rich, distinctive flavor. Highly resistant to peach leaf curl. Late season. 700 hours. Another nectarine or peach needed to pollenize.

July (Kim) Elberta

Also called Early Elberta. Reliable heavy crops. Juicy, sweet, very flavorful yellow freestone. Very high-scoring in taste tests. For canning, freezing, or fresh use. 500 hours. Self-fruitful.

Keweah

The Kaweah peach is an excellent yellow-fleshed freestone that is harvested at the end of July and into August. This selection is suitable for freezing. This peach provides large fruit with a flavor that is a nice balance of acid and sugar. Low chill trials have shown this variety to be productive with less than 500 chill hours.

Pixie Zee - Mini Peach

Large fruit ripens mid to late June in Central CA, two weeks before Honey Babe. Delicious, firm, yellow freestone, beautiful red over orange skin. Vigorous to 6 ft. 400 hours or less. Self-fruitful. 

Saturn

Spectacular, large, dark-pink double blossoms. Yellow freestone fruit is large, juicy, sweet, low in acid & has a fine flavor. Ripens mid-July in central California. Low chilling: 250 - 300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Strawberry

Long-time favorite white freestone peach for California. Very sweet, aromatic, juicy, with superb, delicate flavor. Early to mid July in central Calif. Highly recommended for home orchards. 4-500 hours. Self-fruitful.

Bartlett

Bosc

Comice

The gift pack pear. Sweet, aromatic, fine texture, superb flavor and quality - one of the best. Short neck, greenish-yellow skin with red blush. Late harvest. 600 hours. Self-fruitful in arid West or plant with Bartlett.

Seckel

Connoisseurs' favorite. Sweet, flavorful, spicy, aromatic, perhaps the best. Russeted brown skin. Resists fireblight. Estimated chill requirement: 500 hours. Self-fruitful in arid West.

Persimmon
Chocolate

Small to medium size, oblong, bright red skin. Sweet, spicy, firm, brown flesh, superb flavor the choice of connoisseurs. Astringent until ripe. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

Fuyu - Jiro ('Apple Persimmon')

Medium size, flat shape, still hard when ripe, non-astringent. Cool or hot climate. Hardy, attractive tree, practically pest free. Fall harvest. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

Hachiya

Large, deep orange-red, acorn-shaped. Hot summer required to mature the fruit. Sweet, flavorful, astringent til soft-ripe. Mature fruit can be frozen and thawed to ripen. Productive, ornamental. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

Pluerry
Sweet Treat

Sweet Treat is the first of its kind, the Pluerry™: a new fruit type from the genius of Floyd Zaiger. This taste-test favorite is a complex interspecific hybrid, predominantly of plum and cherry, combining the sweetness of a cherry with that summer fresh plum zing. Much larger than a cherry, this precocious and prolific variety will hang on the tree for over a month, and the colorful fruit make Sweet Treat a true ornamental. Harvest late June through July. Emerald Beauty

One of the highest-rated plums in blind fruit tastings at DWN. Light green skin, greenish-yellow to orange freestone flesh. Harvest begins late August in Central CA. Ripe fruit continues to sweeten, becoming exceptionally sweet, but remaining crisp and crunchy. Ripe fruit holds on tree longer than any other stone fruit two months or more! 600-700 hours. Laroda

Dark purple fruit similar to Santa Rosa, but larger and 5-6 weeks later. Excellent flavor, juicy, one of the best. Prolonged harvest: mid-July to mid-August. 400 hours. Pollenizer required: Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa

Most popular plum in California & Arizona. Juicy, tangy, flavorful. Reddish-purple skin, amber flesh tinged red. Late June in Central Calif. 300 hours. Self-fruitful.

Satsuma

Long-time favorite plum in CA. Mottled maroon over green skin, dark red meaty flesh. Sweet, mild, not tart. Excellent for jam. Harvest late July. 300 hours. Pollinated by Santa Rosa or Beauty.

Sugar Prune

Reddish-purple skin, greenish-yellow flesh, very sweet. Used fresh and for canning. Lower chill requirement than other European prune/plums. 550 hours. Self-fruitful.

Pink Satin

Medium to large size, medium pink to dark red fruit with medium to large, light-pink edible seeds. Wonderful refreshing light-colored juice is non-staining, with a sweet, fruit-punch flavor. Medium to large size fruit with a brilliant red silky exterior. Large firm yet edible seeds have a sweet berry flavor and a great acid/sugar balance. Sweet

Sweeter fruit than Wonderful, more widely adapted (better quality in cool-summer climates). Small, glossy-leafed, ornamental tree with showy orange-red blossoms in late spring. Very suitable to espalier and container growing. Harvest late summer. Unsplit ripe fruit stores in cool, dry place for two months or more. Very low chilling requirement, about 100 hours. Wonderful

Large, purple-red fruit with delicious, tangy flavor. Best quality in hot inland climate. Gaudy red-orange bloom, ornamental foliage. Long-lived, any soil. 150 hours. Self-fruitful.

Raspberry
Amity

Red Ever-Bearing Raspberry -Large, firm, dark red berries with classic raspberry flavor and superior quality. Excellent for fresh market. Amity is good for shipping, freezing, and canning. Can take somewhat heavier soils.

Bababerry

One of the largest raspberries, the Bababerry is red, sweet, firm, and has an excellent flavor. This berry is great for hot regions and mild winters. It bears large crops in early Summer and a small crop in the fall.

Caroline

Red Ever-Bearing Raspberry -Uniquely flavored, large, firm, and cohesive fruit. Long conical shape berry that fruits earlier than Heritage. It is more tolerant to root rot and yellow rust than Heritage. Plants are very productive and produce fruit over a long period.

Fall Gold

Golden Ever-Bearing Raspberry -Large, conical, non-crumbling, very sweet, somewhat soft, golden berries. Excellent for processing and fresh eating. Canes are vigorous, productive, and adaptable to a wide variety of soils. Not recommended for extreme northern areas. First crop ripens in July. Second crop from late August.

Heritage

Red Ever-Bearing Raspberry -Large, sweet, dark red berries with a mild flavor. This superior quality berry is good for fresh eating, freezing, canning, and preserves. Strong, vigorous, very productive, suckers prolifically and spreads rapidly. Fairly tolerant of heavier soils. Produces fruit on first year canes making pruning a breeze.

Munger Black

Black Raspberry -Large, plump yet firm, shiny black berries that are not seedy. Munger has a delicious, sweet flavor that is excellent for jam, jellies, and preserves. Only satisfactory for freezing. Munger has stout canes that appear to be more resistant to Fungal Diseases than other raspberry varieties. Munger is the leading variety in the Pacific Northwest.
