Crazy About – Ptilotus exaltatus ‘Joey’

Spectacular, long lasting, 3” conical spikes of silvery feathery bottlebrush-shaped flowers tipped with neon pink bloom late spring through fall.  Sometimes known as Mulla Mulla, it is a short lived, herbaceous 12-18”x10-12” evergreen, perennial with silver green elliptical leaves.   It is heat and drought tolerant and ideal for rock, Mediterranean, desert gardens, drifts as well as outstanding in mixed containers.  It is an excellent cut flower.  

 

Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil rich in compost matter.   Fertilize lightly every two weeks.  Native to Australia and New South Wales.   Easily propagated by root cuttings or seeds. It attracts bees and butterflies and is considered deer resistant in most gardens. This cultivar is named after baby kangaroos.
